Andrew Murrison met with Chief Constable Roper virtually on Wednesday to discuss policing issues raised by his constituents, particularly related to a spate of violent crime and disorder in town centres which was reflected in his recent survey results.
Andrew was pleased to hear that overall violent crime has declined quite sharply in the county, reflecting the picture nationwide. Ms Roper emphasized the importance of neighbourhood policing and of policing the night time economy in dealing with disorder.
Andrew said;
“It was a good time to chat with the chief as I’m collating residents’ feedback from my recent survey. Online fraud is an increasing problem even if other forms of criminality are declining. In this area rural crime remains an issue with thefts against business in general increased recently and against land based enterprises a particular issue. I certainly support the rising police numbers and Wiltshire’s efforts to slim down HQ operations in favour of the frontline.”
