Andrew will present his Waste Incinerators Bill in the Commons today.
Dr Murrison is a longstanding campaigner against waste incineration. His opposition is driven by the threat of the NREL burner in Westbury which has been allowed by the Planning Inspectorate on appeal after Wiltshire Council refused it but on which substantial construction has not yet begun.
The Bill to be introduced under the Ten-Minute Rule asks;
"That leave be given to bring in a Bill to prohibit the construction of any new incinerator on which substantial building work has not already begun; to make provision about the taxation of incinerated waste; to prohibit local authorities from entering into any contract for the incineration of waste which requires them to pay financial penalties if a minimum amount of waste is not delivered for incineration; and for connected purposes."
It has cross party support including from South West MPs Brian Mathew (LD), John Glen (C), Danny Kruger (Ref), and Lloyd Hatton (Lab).
Andrew said;
"Official figures tell us we are building too many incinerators. They are dirty, environmentally damaging, potentially dangerous and wholly unnecessary. My Bill aims to promote a more responsible approach to waste management."
