Andrew raises concerns over winter NHS pressures

This morning, during Health Questions, Andrew asked the Health Minister for assurances that the Government will reduce the issue of bed-blocking that is exacerbated by the increase of hospital admissions during the winter season.

Andrew asked:

'What can be done to reduce the effect of winter pressures on the bed state of our acute hospitals and thus reduce the awful phenomenon of bed-blocking this winter?'

Health Minister, Phillip Dunne:

'Well we are, as the Honorable gentleman knows, taking steps in particular through the Sustainability and Transformation Plans to increase integration between social care and the health sector and for this winter we are working hard on delayed transfers of care to try to ensure that there is a more rapid patient flow through our hospitals and that involves closer integration with social care professionals to encourage quicker discharge from the hospitals.'
